The village of union center...
...is appropriately named. The earliest settlers in the 1850s located here near the "union" of the two upper main branches of the Baraboo River. Boat travel between Union Center and south to Baraboo was not uncommon. In 1872, the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad found this valley to be the easiest access to the north. In 1902, the Hillsboro & Northeastern Railroad joined in "union" with the C&NW to provide access to the vast farming country to the west.
When gas powered vehicles arrived on the scene, the increasing demand for highways grew. Now we have the present "union" of three major cross-state highways (33, 80, and 82). The crowning "union" is that of the Hillsboro State Trail which joins the "400" State Trail at Union Center's Eagle Parkway.
North, South, East, or West...you can't get there without going through UNION CENTER.
